In the early part of the 21st century, several LGBTQIA+ focused clothing brands emerged on the market. The purpose of this project is to document the history of each brand using the oral history method. We conducted oral histories with 24 brands with questions ranging from their own personal histories to how and why they started the brand. We are interested in the lives of the individuals who founded the brands in addition to the entire story of each brand from idea development to today so that way these stories can be a documented as an important part of fashion and retail history. We purposefully make these oral history transcripts available to the community in order to move research beyond the walls of the academy and make knowledge accessible to everyone.

The National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) is an industry, state, and federal partnership that has long played a central role in bettering the health of US poultry and improving the competitiveness of the US poultry and egg industries.[1] The objective of this communication is to report the findings of a case study of the NPIP undertaken in 2018. The primary aims of the study included seeking a more in-depth understanding of the NPIP, clarifying how NPIP differs from and complements the Secure Food Supply Plans for the US poultry and egg industries, and assessing the needs and potential applications for establishing a similar program for the US pork industry (e.g., “US Swine Health Improvement Plan”).

The Plant Breeding E-Learning in Africa (PBEA) e-modules were originally developed as part of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Contract No. 24576. Building on Iowa State University’s expertise with online plant breeding education, the PBEA e-modules were developed for use in curricula to train African students in the management of crop breeding programs for public, local, and international organizations. The authors of this textbook series adapted and built upon the PBEA modules to develop a series of textbooks covering individual topic areas. It is our hope that this project will facilitate wider dissemination and reuse of the PBEA modules’ content.

Cultivating stakeholders is a critical part of event management. This application activity covers the following four-stage process for involving stakeholders in an event: identification of stakeholders, classifying stakeholders, assessing stakeholders, and maintaining stakeholders. A case study is provided for students to apply to cultivating stakeholders in an industry example.

In the market segmentation of festival attendees application activity, students will review a mini-lecture material related to market segmentation, target marketing, and event positioning. Students will then apply the concepts of marketing segmentation, target marketing, and event positioning by analyzing data collected from an international music festival to establish the target market of the international music festival.

Risk management is a critical part of event management. This worksheet covers definitions of the key aspects of risk management and the steps taken by event management in creating a risk management plan. A case study is provided for students to apply the risk management process in an industry example.

Sponsorship management is activities that an event organization engages in to secure support from sponsors and manage the interests of sponsors at the event. The organizer and sponsor are jointly interested in successfully operating events for their mutual benefit. This section provides an overview of sponsorship management for events. The differences between sponsorship and advertising were compared for their strengths and weaknesses. The sponsorship management of a social event was discussed from the prospective from the perspective of organizers and sponsors. A case study on an LGBT+ event provided a case problem for how to construct a social media sponsorship package.

In a science methods course during the Covid19 pandemic, 51 future elementary teachers authored children's books and then read them aloud as part of a giving-back, service-learning activity as Open Educational Resources (OER). The 51 children's stories and their accompanying audiobooks aim to integrate STEM and the Arts to humanize science and scientific inquiry with history and philosophy of science in mind.

Iowa State University's Languages and Cultures for the Professions (LCP) program allows students to pursue a professional track degree—in the College of Business, the College of Agriculture, or the College of Engineering—while at the same time pursuing a second major in their chosen language in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (within the Department of World Languages and Cultures). But, it’s not just a language that students enrolled in this program are learning. LCP students are gaining the skills to be successful cultural entrepreneurs; they are not only able to communicate in a second language, but they become culturally competent and develop the skills to succeed in multicultural and multilingual professional settings. In this video, LCP graduates and current students share what it means to them to be culturally competent global professionals.
