The processes of conducting a deposition and developing strategies for being deposed or taking depositions are described in this module. The webpages herein reference to The Federal Rules of Evidence and excerpts from the actual depositions of various experts in the Woburn Toxic Trial including John Drobinski, George Pinder, John Guswa, and others. This module describes the setting for taking depositions, how attorneys slowly extract information from those being deposed, and the typical proceedings during deposition. This module can be a stand alone, but the information is best coupled with the modules where students prepare court exhibits to augment and display their technical arguments. This module stresses the need for clarity and parsimony when presenting technical arguments with opposing counsel.

Join us as we investigate the word "accessibility," explore what playground components already exist, and create a playground of our very own. You might even be able to start change in your own community!

Students will explore properties of sound and sound waves, experiment with building models of various musical instruments, then design and build a playable musical instrument of their choosing.

This lesson allows students to listen to a podcast and check out different links to learn more about political parties, how and why they developed, along with learning key vocabulary terms. There are several options within the lesson, including working with a partner, creating a word cloud, reading an article, watching documentary clips and a clip from the musical Hamilton, and completing a graphic organizer. It also includes information and materials where students can learn more about the major presidential elections of 1800, 1824 and 1860.

This unit provides pre-service teachers in methods courses with resources for teaching geoscience content and utilizing the methods of geoscience. Pre-service teachers will prepare an annotated bibliography of instructional resources in the areas of geology, meteorology/climatology, oceanography, and astronomy. They will select one of these resources and prepare a full lesson plan based on the resource that emphasizes the methods of geoscience and also incorporates interdisciplinary material from either biology, chemistry, physics, or the social sciences.

In this module we discuss community in a variety of ways, from fiction and non-fiction. The module is mostly face to face, with online follow-up to practice written expression of their experience. The module finishes with a guest speaker from a First Nation, Miwok Rancheria. This guest builds on the readings, expands our ideas of who is in our community (city), and provides a face-to-face introduction and discussion with a member of the Miwok Nation (an experience no student had up to this point). Working within Correctional Education, I have had many students who were LEP/ ESL and had great language barriers. I have had other tutor/workers who were extremely skilled and fluent in both languages. I asked my tutor worker to convert some of the English sentences in these random PowerPoints into Spanish. We are able to give students the GED exams in Spanish where I work.

A Data Carpentry curriculum for Economics is being developed by Dr. Miklos Koren at Central European University. These materials are being piloted locally. Development for these lessons has been supported by a grant from the Sloan Foundation.

Economics for Life: Real-World Financial Literacy is designed to help soon-to-be college graduates start their "real lives" with a better understanding of how to analyze the financial decisions that they will soon have to make. Written in an easy-to-read, conversational style, this textbook will help students learn how to make decisions on saving and investing for retirement, buying a car, buying a home, as well as how to safely navigate the use of debit and credit cards.

Learning Objectives: 1).Determine point estimates in simple cases, and make the connection between the sampling distribution of a statistic, and its properties as a point estimator.
2). Explain what a confidence interval represents and determine how changes in sample size and confidence level affect the precision of the confidence interval.
3). Find confidence intervals for the population mean and the population proportion (when certain conditions are met), and perform sample size calculations.

This module introduces students to the fundamental principles and uses of electrical resistivity, with a focus on an environmental application. Students explore the characteristics and environmental setting of Harrier Meadow, a saltmarsh just outside of New York City. They investigate the relationship between electrical resistivity and physical properties of the soil in the marsh. Students also discover how variations in survey configuration parameters control investigation depth (how far into the ground the signals sense) and spatial resolution (what size objects can be detected). Finally, students learn about and then perform geophysical inversion, which is the process of estimating the geophysical properties of the subsurface from geophysical observations. In the final unit of the module, students evaluate the extent to which the geophysical dataset and direct physical measurements support the hypothesis, introduced in Unit 1, accounting for the distribution of Pickleweed in Harrier Meadow.
This module is intended to require approximately 2-3 weeks of class time. Teaching material includes PowerPoints that may be used in lectures or provided for self-guided learning, exercises, and handouts that ask students to synthesize what they learn from the exercises. In addition, multiple choice and short answer questions can be given to students as homework, on quizzes, or on exams.

Testimony by expert witnesses is unique in a trial because qualified experts can present opinions as testimony, rather than merely stating implicit facts. This module links users to the Federal Rules of Evidence so they can view and interpret the rules regarding qualifying an expert. In addition to the definition of an expert witness, which is referenced in Article X of the Federal Rules of Evidence, information regarding trial exhibits and the form of trial exhibits are included. Links to mock trial videos are provided so that participants in a mock trial can view the courtroom arrangement and determine how to best utilize exhibits in the courtroom and in the mock trial.

In this unit, students will solve a mystery about changes in oyster larvae in the Salish Sea, causing oyster farmers to send their larvae to Hawaii until they grow stronger. They will look for clues in:
• activities and games, articles, and films that introduce the concepts of habitat and ecosystem
• structures and behaviors for survival in intertidal zone habitats
• the Earth-moon-sun interactions that drive the tides
• the importance of First Foods of the intertidal to first nations communities;
• how intertidal organisms interact across the Salish Sea food web
Afterward, they will arrive at the importance of a balanced carbon cycle in the health of the ocean and use a full scientific investigation to test if their local waters have a healthy pH for oyster larvae and other shelled creatures. Clear pathways of hope are woven into this complex issue, so students know that scientists and leaders are working to solve this problem - and kids can help!
