Budgeting is the most basic and most important tool in anyone's financial toolbox. With this resource, students are given the hands-on opportunity to create budgets for fictional "Regan" during her sophomore year in nursing school, and, later, as a recent graduate with an apartment and a new car. Using either Microsoft® Excel or Google Docs, the students download our budgeting tool with space for their own budget, as well as the examples they created by establishing Regan's budget.
Urban design, inequality and segregation are strongly connected.
Cities around the world, from the Global South to the Global North, are facing a rise in inequality and socio-economic segregation. The wealthy are increasingly concentrating in the most attractive urban areas and poverty is spreading to the suburbs. Rising levels of segregation have major consequences for the social sustainability of cities and leads to unequal life opportunities depending on where in the city you live.
In this course, aimed at a broad range of professionals, from urban planners and architects to geographers, you will learn what the main drivers and indicators of urban inequality and segregation are, using examples from cities from all over the world. You will learn how segregation is measured, how to interpret the results of the analyses of segregation and how to relate these insights to urban design. With this knowledge, you will be able to analyze how these issues may be affecting your local environment.
Additionally, we will present some historical examples of how urban design has played a role shaping spatial inequality and segregation in a selection of case study cities. This will help you to get a better understanding of how urban design can reduce spatial inequality and segregation.
The course is taught by the editors of the new SpringerOpen book “Urban socio-economic segregation and income inequality. A global perspective” and senior experts from the Urban Design section of TU Delft, which is ranked number 2 in the QS World University Rankings in the field of Architecture.
Food and Beverage Management course has been revised and I will use this time to integrate what I have learned in the Equity and Open Education training. I will apply changes throughout the term, including expanding some topics at the beginning of the class when I provide an overview of the sector and in Week 2 when we discuss management styles - add a component on equity, diversity, and inclusion. I hope to add a lot of discussions and also have the students work on a case study (with a partner). During the final lectures when I am discussing “the future” of the food and beverage sector and its sustainability, I plan on adding some more in-depth discussion on equity and diversity and that is such a crucial topic - now, and in for the future of food and beverage businesses.
This course provides an introduction to applied concepts in Calculus that are relevant to the managerial, life, and social sciences. Students should have a firm grasp of the concept of functions to succeed in this course. Topics covered include derivatives of basic functions and how they can be used to optimize quantities such as profit and revenues, as well as integrals of basic functions and how they can be used to describe the total change in a quantity over time.

From idea gathering to drafting to delivery, this course will prepare students to effectively write, present, and communicate in a variety of methods and styles, tailored to professional audiences.
Law, in its simplest form, is used to protect one party from another. For instance, laws protect customers from being exploited by companies. Laws protect companies from other companies. Laws even protect citizens and corporations from the government. However, law is neither perfect nor all encompassing. This course will introduce the student to the laws and ethical standards that managers must abide by in the course of conducting business. Laws and ethics almost always shape a company's decision-making process; a bank cannot charge any interest rate it wants to charge that rate must be appropriate. By the end of this course, the student will have a clear understanding of the legal and ethical environment in which businesses operate. Course Goals and Learning Objectives. The goal of this course is to give the student a basic understanding of chemistry and physical processes in the context of food chemistry, metabolism and cooking. The course also necessarily makes connections to the future sustainability of food and water. We aim to prepare the student for the increasingly urgent and complex national dialogue on the interrelated topics of global climate change, energy, pollution, extinction and the food supply. The specific objectives of this course are to provide the student with the basic vocabulary of chemistry, and a basic understanding of the experimental process as it relates to food chemistry and cooking.
This course is designed for learners with no background in Chinese. It introduces basic structures of the Mandarin Chinese language with emphasis on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Students will gain these four skills in standard Mandarin Chinese, attaining approximately the Novice-High level on the ACTFL-ETS (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) proficiency scale. Topics of conversation include basic greetings, names, family, work, study, and hobbies.
CHN 102 is a continuation of CHN 101. The four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in standard Mandarin Chinese are further developed. Students will gain these four skills, attaining approximately the Intermediate-low level on the ACTFL-ETS (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) proficiency scale. Topics of conversation include education, sports, entertainment, travel, and health.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
* Understand sentence length utterances which consist of recombination of learned utterances on a variety of topics. Content refer primarily to basic personal background and needs, social conversations and some complex tasks.
* Handle successfully a variety of uncomplicated task oriented and social functions. Can ask and answer questions participate in simple conversations on topics beyond the most immediate needs.
* Read consistently with increased understanding simple connected texts dealing with basic personal and social needs. Student will have sufficient comprehension to understand some authentic material as it reflects similarity to specially prepared material and/or to high frequency oral vocabulary and structure.
* Meet a number of practical writing needs. Can write short simple letters. Contents involves personal preference, daily routine, everyday events, and other topics grounded in personal experience. Evidence of control of the syntax of non-complex sentences. Can create a collection of sentences on a given topic.
* List some essential points of Chinese geography, society, and culture.
In this course, students will learn basic Microsoft Windows 10 Operating Systems skills (including Core PC Hardware Components, Graphical User Interface, Local and Cloud File Management, Applications, Internet Browsers, Security, and key System Utilities), Google Email, Contacts, Calendar, and Drive applications, as well as introduction to Word Processing, Spreadsheet and Presentation applications. Additionally, students will learn to create and convert documents between different format (Microsoft and Google apps).
This course is designed to use technology as a productivity tool within a business environment through the use and integration of various software packages. You will use word processing software for formatting business correspondence, creating tables, multipage document, graphical elements, mail merging, and other features. Spreadsheet software will be used to create formulas, use built-in function for calculations, create charts/graphs, reference other worksheets/cells, and create absolute cell references as well as other formatting and editing features. Presentations software will be use to produce, edit, and create visually compelling presentations for business outcomes.

1. Word processing software -- Use the features of a word processing program to produce, edit, and enhance business documents.

This video segment, from the 'Earth: The Operators' Manual' featuring climate expert Richard Alley, shows how ice cores stored at the National Ice Core Lab provide evidence that ancient ice contains records of Earth's past climate - specifically carbon dioxide and temperature.
The student will learn the mechanics of editing and compiling a simple program written in C++ beginning with a discussion of the essential elements of C++ programming: variables, loops, expressions, functions, and string class. Next, the student will cover the basics of object-oriented programming: classes, inheritance, templates, exceptions, and file manipulation. The student will then review function and class templates and the classes that perform output and input of characters to/from files. This course will also cover the topics of namespaces, exception handling, and preprocessor directives. In the last part of the course, the student will learn some slightly more sophisticated programming techniques that deal with data structures such as linked lists and binary trees. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: Compile and execute code written in C++ language; Work with the elementary data types and conditional and iteration structures; Define and use functions, pointers, arrays, struct, unions, and enumerations; Write C++ using principles of object-oriented programming; Write templates and manipulate the files; Code and use namespaces, exceptions, and preprocessor instructions; Write a code that represents linked lists and binary trees; Translate simple word problems into C++ language. This course prepares the medical coding student for detailed procedural coding in integumentary, musculoskeletal, respiratory, and cardiovascular systems. Additionally, this course prepares the student to use ICD-10 diagnostic codes as principal, primary, secondary, and tertiary medical necessity justification. This course also prepares students to competently select accurate HCPCS codes for supplies, medications, transportation, etc.

This course introduces terminology and gives an overview of the computer and information science. It focuses on the basic concepts of computer hardware and software systems, software applications, online inquiry, and evaluation of materials including ethical decisions. It also includes concepts reinforced in a laboratory environment. Through specific hands-on experience you will gather, evaluate, and solve real-world problems and form decisions based upon critical examination of today's technology.
