FA 256: American Film History
American Film History is an introductory course designed to
bring American film into clear focus as an art form, a business,
and a cultural phenomenon. The course explores how feature
films work technically, artistically, and culturally. The course will
probe the deeper meaning of American movies — the hidden
messages of genres, the social and psychological effects of
Hollywood film style, and mutual influence of society and popular
culture.

Studies basic concepts of financial and managerial accounting. Viewpoint is that of the users of accounting information (especially managers) rather than the preparer (the accountant).

This course introduces participants to the financial risks and impacts associated with climate change. Participants will explore a range of risk pathways that link climate and economic systems, including:

• physical risks related to direct exposure to climate hazards in the value chain;
• transition risks arising from abrupt transitions to a low-carbon economy;
• systemic risks transmitted throughout the economy;
• extreme risks arising from the complex dynamic nature of climate-economy systems.

Technologies have profoundly transform the financial markets and in turn present new challenge to the financial education. For instance, as financial markets become more complex and generate more information, it also becomes more and more challenging for market participants to digest and manage the information overload. Upon completion of the course the students will develop a toolkit and will be conversant in current issues related to financial risk management including the dynamic market changes, new trends in financial analysis and a historical perspective on financial risk management.

Inflation, unemployment, recession, economic growth—these economic concepts affect people in very real ways. In two thought-provoking, interactive lessons, this course teaches students about fiscal policy, the avenue by which Congress and the president attempt to influence the economy. The Future of Food is an introductory-level science course that emphasizes the challenges facing food systems in the 21st century, and issues of sustainability for agriculture and other food production activities, as well as the challenges posed by food insecurity and modern diets to human health and well-being. Topics covered include introduction to the coupled-system perspective, historical development of food systems, socioeconomic aspects of the food system, interaction of the food system with the Earth's environment including soil, water, biota and climate, and the future of the food system considering potential changes such as in climate, urbanization, and demography.

The FOSTER portal is an e-learning platform that brings together the best training resources addressed to those who need to know more about Open Science, or need to develop strategies and skills for implementing Open Science practices in their daily workflows. Here you will find a growing collection of training materials. Welcome to Tex's French Grammar (la grammaire de l'absurde), a pedagogical reference grammar that combines explanations with surreal dialogues and cartoon images. Originally built for students at the University of Texas at Austin as a user-friendly guide to French grammar, this web site may be profitably used by any learner of French, provided he or she possess a sense of humor. Tex's French Grammar is arranged like many other traditional reference grammars with the parts of speech (nouns, verbs, etc.) used to categorize specific grammar items (gender of nouns, irregular verbs). The class also includes a quarter-long cultural immersion project, in which you will be asked to conduct research on specific aspects of a non-European Francophone country and report your findings to the rest of the class.

As it is inextricably linked with issues of energy policy, a familiarity with the fundamentals of climate change is critical for those looking to careers in the energy field. To appreciate the societal, environmental, and economic implications of policies governing greenhouse gas emissions, one must understand the basic underlying science. METEO 469 serves to lay down the fundamental scientific principles behind climate change and global warming. A firm grounding in the science is then used as a launching point for exploring issues involving climate change impacts and mitigation.

This course on "Future Internet Opportunities" consists of 10 modules, which are related to the subject from technical, social and business perspectives.
