After listening to Russell Hoban's story "Bread and Jam for Frances", students will illustrate their favorite food and add it to the Food Pyramid Graph.
After completing the various activities in this lesson, students will be able to understand the importance for a healthy body to be able to do an activity for 1 - 5 minutes.
In this lesson Students individually consider a visual text and draw conclusions based on what they see. They write about their conclusions and explain the evidence used to make that determination. Students will be able to analyze a visual text. Students will be able to develop and support a claim about the visual text based on evidence found in the text.
This 14 day Unit Plan integrates the Utah Core Standards for Language Arts and for Reading and Writing in History/Social Studies with the existing Utah Social Studies Standards. The students read, research, draw conclusions, and write beginning level argumentative essays comparing/contrasting major world religions. In this 28 day unit, students will gain background information on historic wars, compare different genres presentations of events, recognize different points of view, research an essential question, compile evidence, create warrants that lead to a claim which answers the essential question, and write an argumentative essay.
In this lesson students will explore many challenges using beanbags. Locomotor as well as manipulatives and non-manipulatives are involved. Students will enhance their knowledge of physical fitness skills as well as related terminology.

Students will begin to understand the concept of maps by describing the path that Little Red Riding Hood took on the way to Grandma's house. Main Curriculum Tie: Social Studies - Kindergarten, Standard 3 Objective 1, Identify geographic terms that describe their surroundings. Many fairy tales and nursery rhymes take the characters on a path through the rhyme/story. In this lesson, we will be making up maps for the characters to follow. In the first activity, the class will be recreating a map of the path that Little Red Riding Hood takes to Grandma’s house. The students will be exploring basic map directions and characteristics.
This unit can vary according to the teacher, the children and the time allotted. It can take up to two weeks or as short as 1 week. Each step can lead to other avenues. Feel free to eliminate or use what would be successful for your children.
