Information visualization is concerned with the visual and interactive representation of abstract and possibly complex datasets. As we encounter growing datasets in various sectors there is an increasing need to develop effective methods for making sense of data. Information visualization relies on computational means and our perceptual system to help reveal otherwise invisible patterns and gain new insights. Across various fields, there is great hope in the power of visualization to turn complex data into informative, engaging, and maybe even attractive forms. However, it typically takes several steps of data preparation and processing before a given dataset can be meaningfully visualized. While visualizations can indeed provide novel and useful perspectives on data, they can also obscure or misrepresent certain aspects of a phenomenon. Thus it is essential to develop a critical literacy towards the rhetoric of information visualization. One of the best ways to develop this literacy is to learn how to create visualizations! The tutorials offer a practical approach to working with data and to create interactive visualizations.

The tutorials require basic familiarity with statistics and programming. They come as Jupyter notebooks containing both human-readable explanations as well as computable code. The code blocks in the tutorials are written in Python, which you should either have already some experience with or a keen curiosity for. The tutorials make frequent use of the data analysis library Pandas, the visualization library Altair, and a range of other packages. You can view the tutorials as webpages, open and run them on Google Colab, or download the Jupyter notebook files to edit and run them locally.

Inland water chemistry: the Nordic Lake Survey 1995

While the ionic composition of surface seawater is basically the same anywhere in the world's oceans, the chemistry of inland waters can vary by orders of magnitude over short distances. In this activity we explore a data set on surface water chemistry in almost 5000 lakes across the Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Finland). Water chemistry of lakes in this mostly sparsely populated region does not carry a strong signal from local human activity. This allows us to explore large-scale gradients related to distance to the ocean, soil and landscape characteristics, post-glacial history, and effects of long-distance pollutant transport processes.

Este libro es una introducción al area de la Inteligencia Artificial y presenta algunas de las aplicaciones que puede tener en la vida real en diversos campos de aplicación, El libro esta compuesto de ocho capítulos los cuales abarcan los antededentes, algunos conceptos importantes para la resolución de problemas como es la representación de conocimiento, el planteamiento de los problemas. Asimismo se menciona la teoría de agentes por un lado y por otro lo que es el aprendizaje computacional. Otra area que se aborta es la computación evolutivo y los algoritmos bioinspirados para la resolución de problemas, dandole enfasis a los problemas de optimizacion. Por ultimo se menciona una nueva tendencia en el area de las ciencias computacionales como es el uso de las GPUs para trabajar de una manera mas rapida al realizar el procesamiento en paralelo.

A port of the open wikibook Lua Programming to LiaScript.

This book aims to teach usage of the latest version of Lua. This means it will be attempted to regularly update it as new versions of Lua come out (Lua releases are infrequent enough that this should not be too difficult). Currently, the book is up-to-date for Lua 5.2, which is the previous version. If you are using Lua in an embedded environment that uses an older version of Lua in the 5.x branch (Lua 5.0 and Lua 5.1), the material should still be sufficiently relevant for you.
