This collection of lessons represent adapted and remixed instructional content for teaching media literacy and specifically civic online reasoning through distance learning. These lessons take students through the steps necessary to source online content, verify evidence presented, and corroborate claims with other sources.

The unit is focused on the examination of geography in terms of “place.” Students dive into inquiry to answer the compelling question, What is unique about living in Washington? Through this question students will understand where and why people live in Washington State. Students will dive into the regions of Washington State and define it through many characteristics. Students will ultimately choose a region to become an expert on and communicate what makes that region unique. Each student’s performance task product will reflect choice and build upon student strengths according to their skill set.

Launch into the OER Universe! This course includes eight self-paced online learning modules that serve as an introduction to Open Educational Resources (OER) in Higher Education. An additional section provides opportunities for further exploration and discovery of OER initiatives in Michigan.

This paper presents the results of collaborative research between open textbook provider OpenStax College (OSC) and the OER Research Hub (OERRH), a Hewlett funded mixed methods open research project examining the impact of open educational resources (OER) on learning and teaching.

The paper focuses primarily on the results of two surveys that were conducted with educators using a range of OSC open textbooks during 2013 and 2014/2015. The results of this research shows that OER such as OSC enables a majority of educators to better respond to student needs whilst often making teaching easier and in some instances changing teaching practices. Although this paper does not focus on the impact of OER on students, a majority of educators surveyed perceive an increase in student satisfaction when using OER such as OSC and believe that OSC are saving students money.

The National Forum Open Licensing Toolkit provides a detailed description of Creative Commons (CC) licenses as well as a 4-step guide to choosing, creating and adding CC licences to resources in order to make them OER, i.e. able to be shared, reused and adapted in different institutional, disciplinary and programme contexts.

In 2021, the Student Senate at Roger Williams University passed a resolution to initiate coursemarking in RogerCentral, the portal in which students search and register for classes. This resolution is licensed CC-BY, in hopes that other student governments can benefit from seeing model language.

This resources is a fact sheet for adult educators and administrators to learn about OER and their benefits in the adult education classroom.

Open Educational Resources (OER) offer opportunities for increasing equity and access to high-quality K–12 education. Many state education agencies now have offices devoted to identifying and using OERs and other digital resources in their states. To help states, districts, teachers, and other users determine the degree of alignment of OERs to the Common Core State Standards, and to determine aspects of quality of OERs, Achieve has developed eight rubrics in collaboration with leaders from the OER community.

“This starter kit has been created to provide instructors with an introduction to the use and creation of open educational resources (OER). The text is broken into five sections: Getting Started, Copyright, Finding OER, Teaching with OER, and Creating OER. Although some chapters contain more advanced content, the starter kit is primarily intended for users who are entirely new to Open Education.”

While some of the content included in the handbook is Iowa State University-specific, these examples are few and I have tried to make the text as generalizable as possible. I welcome any comments for potential edits and additions to the text and will add an errata/tracking changes page to the front matter in the future. I especially welcome comments on my Diversity and Inclusion chapter, since I am not the most well-versed on that topic.

The OER Starter Kit was originally adapted from the ABOER Starter Kit, but blossomed into a much larger project over the past few months.
