Prompt:
There are several approaches to adopting OER. Of the following three options, which are you most likely to do and why? What help would you like as you work to adopt OER?
Three main approaches to adopting OER:
Individual resources (single lessons, games, videos, assignments - example PhET)
Compilations of resources (likely compiled by a teacher/coordinator from several different OER sources)
Whole Courseware (Illustrative Math, CK-12, EL Education, OpenSciEd)
Most schools districts I serve have a bought curriculum that teachers should be adhering to (whether or not they are typically varies depending on support/accountability from administration). So the Whole Courseware doesn't feel as appealing, unless they are teaching a special content area with no established curriculum.
I see again and again, first year educators worry over the range of readiness within their classrooms and are constantly seeking ways to scaffold, differentiate, or supplement based on student performance, which is why I see the individual resources being most utilized.
Post webinar - the question I am left wondering the most is how we encourage more educators to contribute to OER, in the same ways they contribute to something like TPT (which has the added benefit of compensation...) Same with evaluating and commenting on resources, too... that's such a powerful component to all this, but probably one of the least utilized. I have no answers, but it is definitely what I am left reflecting on!
